DR. MIKE FABAREZ is the founding pastor of Compass Bible Church in Aliso Viejo, California. He is a graduate of Moody Bible Institute, Talbot School of Theology, and Westminster Theological Seminary in California. Mike is heard on hundreds of stations on the Focal Point radio program and has authored several books, including Lifelines for Tough Times, Preaching That Changes Lives, and Bible Survey for Kids. Mike and his wife Carlynn have three children, Matthew, John and Stephanie.

This is a must have for every parent !!Hardest part about being married to police officer is playing the role of mom and dad 4-5 days a week. 4-5 days a week my husband sleeps during the day, gets up and ready for work and is completely absent from our home. This leaves the responsibility of biblical parenting and training of our children 100% of that time on me. We want to raise men not boys and this book is excellent biblical instruction and support for us. So that I as a mother raising twin boys, often on my own and a challenge of itself, can do so biblically. I am so thankful for pastor Mike Fabarez and all that he's poured into this book!"Discipline your son, for there is hope; do not set your heart on putting him to death" prov. 19:18Who sets their heart on putting their son to death? The answer : a shortsighted parent who fails to diligently provide correction and direction to they boy. As I said, all of this spells love. Mike Fabarez obviously does not know his audience. His title and subtitle will attract Christian parents looking for supplement information and wisdom to help them raise godly men. Fabarez instead gears his writing to unbelievers who want to raise godly men. Makes sense, right? No, not at all. Fabarez toggles from using scripture, to making snide remarks, to talking to Christians, to talking to unbelievers. This book has a great title and subtitle, but it's obvious he hasn't decided on his audience. It seems as if he just wanted to say that he's written a book.I appreciate that scripture is used in this book, however, the author makes MANY statements without backing them up (with either the Bible, or statistics, or even personal outcomes). Fabarez writes from an extremely narrow point of view - his sample size of two sons and their specific personalities. He makes no mention or consideration that kids come with all sorts of different personalities, strengths, weaknesses, and gifts. Please note that this is a book simply written by a man who has raised two sons. That is all. He hasn't studied people, he makes no mention of an extensive history of counseling others like Dr James Dobson does in order to assure that he may indeed, know more than his reader on this subject. Are the Fabarez sons "successful?" "Godly?" "Loving?" We don't know. The author doesn't say. There is zero evidence that Fabarez is someone from which Christians should seek godly advice from.Legalism and ill counsel oozes from this book and the author's condescending tone is thinly veiled. I can't help but wonder if all the positive reviews for this book are coming from people who attend this author's church in which he pastors.The bits in this book that my husband and I agreed with were already things we know and implement with our family. These things we've learned from reading the Bible, the Holy Spirit's prompting, godly counsel, reading Dr Dobson, listening to Dave Ramsey, etc.If you are considering reading this book, pray first. Ask the Lord to make it clear what He wants you to glean from this book and if there is any ill counsel, that you would be able to spot it right away and know that it does not come from God.
This is an extremely practical, timely, and necessary book on raising boys to become Godly men. Using the Bible as the basis, Mike Fabarez outlines practical guidelines for raising Godly men in a Christian home. If you are a Christian parent you should read this book.

Raising Men Not Boys Is full of both theological and practical guidance for fathers who want to raise godly sons. Dr. Fabarez has raised two sons of his own and uses both biblical truth and his own experience to help fathers (and mothers) to lovingly teach, discipline, and guide their sons. This little book will be a great gift for parents at every stage -- even for prospective parents. I plan to keep this book nearby and will refer to it again an again.
Excellent book on how to raise boys with a Biblical worldview from finance, hard work, being a gentleman, hygiene, etc with the perspective of working to honor God.
Having grown up with sisters, I've often felt lost when it comes to raising my boys. This book provides excellent practical application for bringing up boys who are confident, capable, and love and fear the Lord. The Biblical wisdom imparted is timely and necessary. I intend to keep this book handy as I guide and teach my little ones through each stage of life. Highly recommend as a resource in Christian parenting.
