Great writing, very fun and personal. You feel as if the author is just chatting with you, and you're getting great information too. The book covers the basics and gives you tricks/tips and alternatives that will help you make your magic truely yours.
I couldn’t put this down. With each passing sentence I found myself wanting more and asking more questions and seeking more information. This has helped me realize that I was on the right path.
Love the book. Love the author. Brilliant work. Can't wait for the next one.
First, let me point out that the language in this book is very down-to-earth. You might read that as "OMG, Mya has a potty mouth." And if that sort of thing offends you, just keep on keeping on.Second, I expected to find fluff and nonsense. Go me for being a judgmental b#tch. It is not. Not in any way. This is a book I can, and will, be recommending. Why was I so judgmental? I've been reading witchy books since 1980 (no joke...). I've read a lot of flufftastic nonsense. I've read a lot of potentially harmful stuff too. So yeah, I'm judgmental. Okay, I prefer discerning, but it's all semantics.Back to the book. That's why you are here, isn't it?Do you want wise, witty info? Get this book.Do you want someone to do it all for you? Don't get this book.Do you want to put some serious work into your own work? GET THIS BOOK.From witchy implements to sigil crafting to candle work, Mya puts her knowledge into this book. She's one of the women you see when you walk into Enchantments. Funny story? I was in Enchantments in July with my cousin. Saw Mya. Didn't know she wrote this book. Yeah, LOL. And for the record? I loved Enchantments. I was there looking for Tarot decks I didn't have. Sadly, I had all the ones they had. Dang it. Addict DENIED.I did buy a copy of Women Who Run With The Wolves though.Back to the review, Arwen. So anyway, my thoughts on this book are:Get this book even if you are older than dirt, painted on the cave walls, or think you can't learn anything new.Get this book if you are new. It's got solid information delivered in a fresh, authentic voice. My only question is...when is the next book?
I practice Earth religion and attend a pagan church here in WI (Circle Sanctuary, come join us). We get a ton of first time visitors who are bold enough to come but lack any backstory whatsoever. I’m going to start handing out copies of this book. It is hilarious but also welcoming. No nonsense, over your head mysticism; Spalter holds your hand through the basics and let’s you know we are in this together. Again, she is very funny and I laughed out loud throughout this book.The best part of this book is that no one is turned away or made to feel stupid. My grandmother brought the old ways with her from “ the old country†but few are that lucky. Let Mya be your spiritual buddy. She’s really a wonderful, instructive writer. I just love this book and look forward to sharing it with others. Blessed be!
This book is a party on the page. Author Mya Spalter had me cracking up while inspiring me to pick a color of candle, carve a sigil (I had to look it up but it's a symbol used in magic - kind of like an emoji) and set my intention. She kicks off with an intro about herself and her history which is fun and she delivers the ancient art of spells in a way that can be digested and applied by anyone. Her humor is a little oddball, for example she describes a blue safety barrier as an Advil capsule, then a blue body condom, and then touches on the bubble from Glinda the Good Witch. It sounds slapstick, but it's not and it works in such a way that's not offensive, it's actually really descriptive and adds to the subject matter in a way that really made sense to me. She explains the logic and yes, science, behind magic and how to set up an alter space. Strangely, I have all the elements she described in my work space which makes me hella happy to be tuned in to my wiccan ancestors without even knowing it. I'm not crazy about the book cover, nor the title, BUT I absolutely loved the contents. I read it all the way from beg to end, but you can use it as a reference book and pick and choose the parts as well. But I recommend reading it all the way through on your first read. Mya makes magic approachable, making it modern and accessible (dollar store examples) while respecting the culture and history. References and suggested reading at the end of each chapter. Think of this as a guide, not a final destination on your exploration. *There is profanity in case you care about that. It didn't bother me at all.
I received a free copy of this book and opted to post a review.As someone who used to practice witchcraft, I've read my fair share of books on the subject. Most of the books I've read were boring, confusing, impractical, or just plain weird; which is why I stopped reading nonfiction books on the subject of witchcraft. Life is really too short to read boring or confusing books about a subject that is actually quite interesting and easily simplified.I absolutely loved the tone of the book! Conversational, quirky and imbued with enthusiasm, it's written like Spalter is teaching her friends about witchcraft. She shares her mistakes, what she's learned during her time working at "Enchantments," and explains it in a way that makes witchcraft approachable. Spalter really nails it in the sections about astrology and numerology! These concepts can become very complex, very quickly; however, Spalter simplifies them so that everyday people, like you and me, can understand them. She shares relevant and practical examples of how to practice witchcraft and often refers readers to other books where they can read more about the different subjects if they choose to do so.Enchantments is a great book for those who are curious about witchcraft, new witches who are just beginning their journeys, or seasoned witches who just need to look something up quickly.
