Review
Artist and fabric designer Hoey (Little Stitches) is known in the sewing world for her cute, quirky designs. In this project collection, she provides patterns and instructions for organizers in a variety of styles, from simple needlebooks and pincushions to zippered pouches and totes. Some of the projects will be familiar to sewists with experience in bag making, while others, such as the triple pouch, present a new spin on storage. Though the organizers are designed to store sewing supplies, they're not limited to that purpose, making them useful gift projects as well. VERDICT ÂSewists looking for clever ways to use up their stash and organize their supplies will find numerous options here. (Library Journal, 6/15/2017)We love Aneela Hoey's style and attention to detail, which is apparent in her latest book, Stitched Sewing Organizers. It features 15 adorable projects that'll keep your sewing space in great shape, or would make the perfect gift for your quilting bestie or a project swap. There are projects for your sewing studio, including needlebooks, tape measure covers and fabric boxes; but there are also a heap of pouches, totes and folios that will help you keep portable projects and your hand sewing kit organized.Aneela includes lots of know-how when talking about the specific materials and supplies, which of course include interfacing and fleece, needed for the projects. The basic techniques section is comprehensive, so there's no need to be daunted by the detailed finishes on the projects. The only problem with this book is deciding which projects to make first! (Make Modern, 17)The answer to the non-sewer's question―'How many sewing organisers do you need?'―is 15. These quick and adaptable projects are designed to fit inside one another to bring order to your unruly supplies, while teaching new skills! (Sew Magazine, August 2017)Being surrounded by pretty things makes any job much more pleasant and even sweeter if they are handmade. Each of these storage items are so useful that you will want to make them all. Select your most favourite fabrics, choose one of the 15 projects, and start making! There is an informative section at the beginning that covers all the various materials used, the closures an the tools. Techniques are also explained, so that even the most hesitant sewer will find guidance to produce a lovely finished product. Instructions are detailed with easy-to-follow, labelled diagrams clearly showing the construction of each project. All you really have to worry about is gathering supplies to fill your finished organiser. (Down Under Quilts, 181)

I've made half of the projects from this book so far and plan to make the rest in the next month (I joined an online sew along group and we make one project every week.) No complaints! It is informative, comes with a full sized pattern sheet, and most of the items use clever construction techniques making them interesting to stitch with tips I can use for future projects. These pouches, bags, and cute notions would make great sewn gifts too. The author explains each step; my advice would be not to work ahead. Simply read each step and follow it. The only seam ripping I've had to do came from not reading the instructions closely.I especially love that just inside the front cover is one page with all of the projects from the book. It is an excellent resource for finding the pattern I'm looking for quickly. I wish every pattern book included something so useful.
I'm not sure how this book gets such rave reviews. I am a fairly experienced sewist and have made multiple bags in my sewing lifetime. This book leaves a lot to be desired in the instructions and drawings. I have made 3 items from this book so far, one of which went fairly smoothly. The other two have had me pulling my hair out because the instructions lack clear directions. The current item I am working on is the big zip pouch. Something as simple as stating which measurement is the width and which is the height is MISSING from the instructions. I have a directional fabric and cut it thinking the pictured finished item looked slightly taller than wide, only to realize that it is the other way and so I have to REDO my zipper tabs and shorten my zipper detail strips. I really, really wanted to like this book because the projects in are outstanding, but I honestly don't know that I'll make any other items because who needs this much frustration when sewing???
I love to knit and embroider, and these accessories are fun to sew and they make keeping your supplies organized much easier. (Plus they are all just so darned cute!) Most of the projects are somewhat challenging---you are working with vinyl, zippers, etc., but you can customize them to fit your needs and you can make them all in coordinating fabrics so they are all matchy-matchy. Buying products made to store your needlework projects in are usually very expensive for some reason, and you can make the projects in this book for a lot less money. You can also modify the organizers so they can be used to jewelry storage when you travel or make them for your kids to carry small toys in.
It is hard to find small stitched items all in one book. This is my favorite. There are many choices, diagrams and instructions are clear, and items to make are useful. The finished products are more versatile than just sewing organizers; they are organizers for a multitude of things. I highly recommend.
I’m a huge fan of this pattern designer ! Initially I used some of her independent pdf patterns then I discovered her book. I made every project in this book, some of them more than once. The instructions are clear, the materials required are easily obtainable and the creativity of the pattern design is off the charts. My advice is to make the Book and Tool Folio first, so that it can hold your book and patterns all in one place. Some of the project designs are perfect for showcasing larger print fabrics.
This is truly a great book. The instructions are clear and concise. What may seem like wordy details are actually step-by-step directions to help you visualize the process. Therefore you end up with beautifully designed organizers that are useful in every way. There’s a Materials/Supplies section, a Tools section and a Basic Sewing Techniques section - all to help before you even step up to your machine. The photos and illustrations are great, all done in that Aneela style that we love. I’ve made every single project in this book (some more than once!) and each one is a super useful object! Go - get this book now!p.s. I had my copy spiral bound at a local office supply store. Best $5 I ever spent.
Great attention to detail. Fun projects that are useful.... and many can be made from stash fabrics, always a good thing! The directions and illustrations are clear and thorough. Beautifully photographed. Would recommend to anyone who loves beautifully sewn pieces and has favorite fabrics waiting to be sewn. These projects would make great gifts for sewing friends or retreat attendees.
Bought this as a Kindle book. One project has you using a template in book. How is that supposed to happen on the Kindle? Wait, maybe my kindle has the template in a pocket somewhere! Amazon why was this even allowed for the kindle?
