If you are looking for a funny book, this is it. A short person who thinks he's a leprechaun steals a duffel bag full of money from Trenton's most dangerous gangster. Then he sets it down to avoid detection where Grandma Mazur picks it up and runs off with it. She leaves a note at home that she is on the road; meaning she is buying a Winnebago, hiring a driver/security guard, and heading to Atlantic City to gamble away this newfound money. Stephanie Plum's mom sends her to bring Grandma back, but before she can do so the gangster kidnaps Grandma and wants the full amount of the money returned. Probably would be worth a five star, but I can't stand the Diesel character and he keeps showing up in all the between the numbers books.
I have come to the conclusion, when I need a good comedy, I don't need an episode of "I Love Lucy," I need to curl up with an unread copy of a Stephanie Plum novel. And this one is hilarious. Stephanie has only one bail jumper to find, and she's disappeared. Turns out, the mysterious Diesel has her hidden and tells Stephanie that the only way she will be released is for Stephanie to take over Annie's client's and solve their problems. Turns out Annie is a relationship specialist and her clients consist of solving their romance problems before Valentine's Day. On Annie's client list is Stephanie's sister's boyfriend,for whom she has given birth to one child and another is on the way. The solution here is to get them married, but before she can do that she has to repair broken marriages, and locating suitable partners for others. However, every move she makes is followed by a funny counter move, and.Stephanie's blunders work out in the end. Only read if you like to laugh.
I just love the Plum series. Janet manages to come up with all manner of situations and kinds of FTA's which is fascinating when you realize how many books in this series there are. Her recurring characters from Morelli and Diesel to Stephanie's grandma Mozur and parents become so real you feel you know them. I am getting old but I hope I live long enough to read the final story and discover who Stephanie ends up with. My money is on Morelli. By the way, the sexual situations are not salacious, and while there always is violence with at least one FTA, most of them are more funny than awful. All the fans should get together and get Stephanie a Humvee to keep her in the same car for at least one episode and Lula , well, maybe in the end Lula and Tank can be married in the Vatican!
I didn’t know whether I would like Diesel but he’s a solid, somewhat complex character. This novel still had bounty hunter at the center but the main story was in the Pine Barrens and really peculiar characters. Living in Texas, I thought of Terlingua which has its share of people who don’t want to be found. Stephanie was at her best, just a bit overwhelmed but still hanging on. Lula was there for some of the action, but decided she would rather not face the Jersey Devil. A good read with enough loose ends that come together well like most of Janet’s novels.
This is the best of the "Between the Plums," or unnumbered Stephanie Plum books. I've never been a fan of Diesel, but he makes this story work. Stephanie gets stuck baby sitting a monkey, Carl, while his owner is on her honeymoon. When a dead man is discovered, Stephanie first must solve his murder to get her FTA, as the FTA was an employee of the murdered man, who was a partner to the man Diesel is after. Confused? Read the book and enjoy the ride through the backwoods of Trenton where men are trying to learn how to control the weather. More fun than a barrel of monkeys. Oh, and a barrel of monkeys are a big part of the book.
I've been reading the Plum series on and off for years, recommended to me by my mom. She's a but more versatile in her genres than I am. (And she's a lot less snobby about it. I can admit I am a bit of a book snob, and romances are usually not my first pick.)But the Plum series by Janet Evanovich is funny and easy to read. This particular book was no exception. The plot moves fast, it kept me interested the whole way through. It isn't fantastic literature, it wont make you cry or think about your life from a new perspective. But if you need a book to read on a long airplane ride, this and other Plum novels are a good choice.I also recommend getting the first books in the series at the library. Save some money as you catch up. That's a lot of books to buy!
I enjoy the Stephanie Plum series, but this is my favorite. The crazy characters (Easter Bunny, Jersey Devil, Bigfoot!!) and the nuttier plot always amuse me. I even purchased an audio book in addition to the paperback just to hear Carl the monkey. Yes, I wrote 'monkey'. And who could resist Ernie the Fire Farter?It's a wild ride and silly as anything but I recommend it to anyone looking for a fun read.
I love Janet Evanovich books, which is why I read this book. She doesn't disappoint with this one. It's funny and entertaining. I just love Carl, the monkey. I woke my husband up, while reading in bed, laughing.
