This book is excellent. There is a mixture of classical pieces and songs arranged with a classical touch. I would consider this an "advanced" level solobook (not sure what it is categorized as) but it is challenging in a good way. The arrangements are interesting and so far, I absolutely love the way "Christ the Lord is Risen Today" is arranged. It's not the most difficult piece in the book but it's something "different" if you're used to searching for that arrangement for Easter every year! The "Hallelujah Chorus" piece is a challenge for me as a self-taught pianist but it's very moving as well. I'm sure an Advanced pianist could really make these songs SING :)

I've read some great stuff on my Kindle.After reading some reviews on this book and hearing that the protagonist is a Marine, I had to download it and start reading.Like a crayon-loving Gyrene, I accidentally downloaded Noble #2 instead of the #1."Self", says I, "in for a penny, in for a pound."Thus, I downloaded #1 and #2, sight unread, just this morning.My "modus operandi" for reading books is the same as for my meals or Netflix...I binge.Why waltz when you can rock & roll?!So, it would surprise no one close to me for me to have read 2 or 3 books in this series by Day 1.I am stuck on Chapter 9 on Book #1 and I am not making much headway.It's like swimming against a 2 knot current with a 1 knot Rocket fin at "Combatant Dive Course". Cranky old guys just call it Scuba School. Which was a cake walk compared with pre-Scuba.In other words: it sucks.But, while finning makes my ankles hurt, reading this just gives me a big A-1 headache.So many inaccuracies and implausibilities.No recruit is considered a Marine until graduating MCRD, unnless, one is of the rare "Frozen Chosin".There is no "clip", unless you have a M1A to load from the top or a SKS, Mosin, etc...Spec ops Gyrenes usually use either MeuSoc 1911's or Glocks, with a few other brands. Last thing they use is M9's."Medics" are Army, "Corpsman" is the Marine term.The clandestine meetings are soup sandwiches.You don't hear the shot before the impact.Lord, I really want to like this, but if this was a paperback copy, I would have thrown it down in disgust several times.Now, I just open up on a useless game on my Ipad.I apologize to the author. I think you have a great idea. It just doesn't work for me.I had to write this so that others can get the...rest of the story...

I started reading one of the Noble Intentions series books, discovering quickly that there must be prequels. Too many references to characters and events the one should be aware of. A couple of quick searches located the Jack Noble books in published sequence. I'm glad I did, and this book, Noble Beginnings, was the first.This book firmly establishes who what Jack Noble is all about. It makes it clear early on, that Jack is the fearless protagonist.The book is well-written, and enjoyable from beginning to end. I only discovered this series some months ago, and was surprised when I found that Lee Ryan had been writing Jack Noble books for several years. A bit of the technology was already dated by then, but once the time-frame was established, it made that perfectly acceptable.The end of this book made me want more of Jack Noble. The last few pages made it clear which they were, and where to find them.Regarding the character himself, Jack Noble, it is evident early on that he has several James Bond-ish traits. Unafraid for the most part, and with a sense of humor, he charges ahead in the plot with a zeal for doing "what is right".I'm hooked, and will read all the rest of the series.

Target audience must be a 15 year old with an overdose of testosterone. A non-existent story line. I can't believe I am so far out of synch with those who allegedly gave it such a high rating.

I love legal/political thrillers, so I was looking forward to this one. The story line involving an intelligence operation in Iraq grabbed me right away, the action was non stop. Like most political thrillers, the plot line was a like a ball of tangled Christmas lights. Attention and patience in equal measure are usually rewarded.As the story line played out the character became less and less believable to me. And the ending while obviously a tease for the next book in the series, left me cold. Jack Noble has been compared to Jason Bourne. in my opinion, not even close.

This is primarily a repeat of what I posted for the second book, but since I bought them together and read them consecutively, the same review should carry over.I’m really not sure how these books are rated so high. Based on the previous reviews I went ahead and ordered the first two. I read the second only because I had already paid for it and I thought that things might get better. It didn’t turn out that way.I understand a bit of poetic license and some suspension of realism in order to keep the story going, but these books just crossed the line. I’m not certain whether the author realizes that the U.S. did not go into Iraq at the same time we went into Afghanistan. He may also actually believe that someone could crash a car through a garage door in the middle of the night and not alert a couple of assassins just around the corner.I’m sorry, but these are not good books.

Except for his best buddy, Jack just keeps getting blind sided by individuals he should be able to trust. The intrigue is very complex and surprises lurk around every corner. This is really a fast moving adventure and I felt like I was on one of those amusement park rides that slowly lifts you up and then suddenly drops you down. I could almost feel the wind rushing past my ears with all that was going on. Rather exciting, for certain.I always enjoy reading a novel by author, Ryan. His characters are bigger than any life I know of. I see Tom Cruise all over this one.Well done, Mr. Ryan.

TotAlly predictable and uninteresting. MAkes no sense that the CIA would take 18 year old recruits out of marine basic and make them operators. Caricatures were stereotypes and uninteresting, the plot dumb and nonsensical. Can't understand how this writer is successful. And no Marine would ever call a colonel and general by their last names.....I want my 4 hours back please

As a fairly new resident of North Texas, I knew when I saw this book I wanted to read and review it. Drought and severe water shortages are things we deal with often in this area of the country. It can be an uphill battle trying to grow things that clearly aren’t suitable for a specific environment. Moving from Upstate New York down to Texas has taught me that readjusting my growing habits is critical to my garden’s success.The author certainly knows a great deal about gardening. The Water-Saving Garden is packed with an abundance of information that’s sure to appeal to both beginner and expert gardeners. Far from just talking about the usual cacti that most people equate with this type of gardening, this book delves much deeper by discussing some very inventive ways of capturing every drop of water we can. As an example, there’s an informative section that addresses rain barrels and cisterns, which I found invaluable.Additional info on including attractive hardscape elements into our gardens is addressed as well. Just adding a few touches here and there are excellent ways to add interest to our gardens – garden sculpture, benches, rocks, tile, pottery, arbors, ponds, etc. all help visually make up for any plants that might not thrive in a drier climate.The pages of this book are glossy, which is excellent for showcasing the beautiful photos included in The Water-Saving Garden. The photos are wonderful accompaniments to the instructional text. The very generous final chapter (part five) is a valuable reference guide for anyone wishing to choose trees and plants that thrive in a dry climate.I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in creating his or her own water-saving garden. The first pages of some gardening books are filled with fluff that seems to have been written just to make the book longer. I sometimes flip through introductions and first chapters quickly without reading just to get to the meat of the book. Not this one! I read every single word of The Water Saving Garden. From beginning to end, Penick’s book about wise use of water in the garden was full of ideas and information. It was obvious to me that she had firsthand experience with the techniques she describes as well as with the drought tolerant plants she recommends. The major themes are changing our idea of beauty to one that is not as flowery, accepting plants that will survive dry periods with only occasional watering in order to use less water, and using hardscape to reduce areas that need water. By organizing ideas into chapters on design ideas, water retention, planting technique, adding the illusion of water, and plant selection, she made the book easy to reference and to use. The last section on plants gives short descriptions of 100 drought tolerant trees, shrubs, perennials, grasses, groundcovers, bulbs, and annuals that will save gardeners time spent in plant selection.I really liked the section on hardscape choices – paths, patios, decks, walls, fences, gravel, boulders, and artifacts never need to be watered! For example, half buried loosely arranged boulders look good, help retain and slow down water, and provide planting pockets.She gives many examples of artistic ideas, such as a dry creek bed, pebble mosaics, spilling plants like Dichondra argentea, raked gravel, and grouping plants, evoke the “feeling” - the illusion - of water.Experienced gardeners as well as novices will benefit from reading this book. I recommend you buy the physical book for ease of reference. You will be going back to it a lot!

Having read Pam Penick's previous book, Lawn Gone, I would say it overlaps a little bit with the information presented in The Water-Saving Garden. It's worth picking up this title anyway, for Penick's stunning photography, eloquent treatment of the blessings and challenges of water, and practical advice on creative ways to plan, sculpt, hardscape and plant your unique garden to make the best of use of this precious resource. The highlights for me were detailed profiles on berms, swales, terracing, dry creeks and rain gardens, water-thrifty gardens, container gardening and evoking a watery feeling in the garden with little to no water. Thanks for another inspiring book, Pam!

It was disappointing for a desert gardener. The photos are of gardens in more moderate climates. Also, very few plants were identified with their latin names which are necessary if you want to research them or locate them to purchase. Common names often are the same for several different plants. Just knowing something is is a succulent or in a certain genus is little help. Plants should be identified by genus and species.

Great pictures for ideas on a thoughtful garden. Lots of good details on how to evaluate your soil. This is the crux of any gardening. Plus, I love how she doesn't demonize all grass. My favorite look in this book a small section of grass with natives surrounding the garden. I found a little grass patch in my Arizona garden an attraction to birds since it brings down the temperature during the very hot part of the day, also a little square of green give your eye rest. Got some new updated ideas on water permeable garden paths and shade materials too. My friends found her info useful as well ( I shared my book).
